Shaun Gladwell’s ‘Electronic Monuments’
Commissioned for Shaun Gladwell’s Pacific Undertow exhibition, Electronic Monuments is an interactive work that places the viewer in a virtual version of the gallery that expands and contracts as if alive. The viewer can move about interacting with this environment encountering Gladwell’s own artworks as well as fragments of image and sound taken from a range of sources.
The work begins with a 1:1 replica of the physical space, which slowly fades to a wireframe “skeleton” of the room. This VR work was animated, produced and designed by the team at CactusCan. Right down to the build of the VR-Ready PC that ran the installation.
See below for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look of Shaun Gladwell in the space with the VR installation taking shape in an early prototype.
